What is American Regency?
American Regency is an integrated arthouse campaign across photographic documentation, media, and fashion. The campaign calls into question the idea of American authority and how it collides with individual identities and freedoms.
All photographs were created from locations where photography was lawfully permitted unless otherwise noted. American Regency is an independent documentary publication produced by VRTY Arthouse®. References to organizations, institutions, trademarks, buildings, or individuals are included for documentary, journalistic, and editorial purposes only. Their inclusion does not imply affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from those organizations.
Key Takeaways:
America has branded its history of imperialism as virtuous, despite the inherent harm done to individual cultures and communities.
America and its institutions exert hegemonic authority rendering individual voices silent.
Our nation celebrates liberty while simultaneously negotiating who receives it.
Director’s Note:
The American Dream has branded a generation raised to celebrate imperialists as the good guys. Who is the American Dream for? Under what conditions do we get to celebrate freedom?
Our liberties are at the mercy of the powers that be: the Imperialist Regents, the Technocratic Oligarchy, the American Aristocracy.
On the 250th Anniversary of America, we recognize the strides we have made - and offer a solemn warning against premature celebration. Can a nation celebrate liberty while simultaneously negotiating who receives it?
Can we exist as individuals under the hegemony of institutions that attempt to brand our identity?
Until thy kingdom come, we keep moving forward. Let the art do the talking.
Truth over Vanity.
